Tariff Threat Remains a Wake-Up Call for Governments, Business: Ontario Chamber
January 20, 2025(TORONTO – January 20, 2025) – Today, Daniel Tisch, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, released the following statement following today’s U.S. presidential inauguration:
“While tariffs remain only a threat, Canada remains a target – making today a wake-up call for governments and a call to action for business. It’s a call we must answer.
“Federal, provincial and business leaders must work together – both within Canada and with our many U.S. business and political allies – to showcase Canada’s strengths, shore up our vulnerabilities, and be America’s essential partner in an unstable world.
“In doing so, we must also prioritize competitiveness over complacency, and diversification over dependence on our largest market. Ontario and Canada have the assets and talent the world needs. By dismantling interprovincial trade barriers, lowering the cost of doing business, developing strategic industries, and investing in infrastructure, higher education and healthy communities, we can turn our strengths into an enduring competitive advantage.
“In recent weeks, Canada has become more united in the face of a common threat. Building on this momentum, Ontario’s business community will work with our governments and U.S. business partners to advance our collective prosperity.”
