Slashing Electricity Rates the Right Thing to Do
March 24, 2020(Toronto, March 24, 2020) – Rocco Rossi, President & CEO, Ontario Chamber of Commerce released the following statement in reaction to the Ontario Government’s electricity relief plan announced today to offset electricity costs during the coronavirus pandemic.
“While revenues and incomes have dried up for many small businesses and workers, bills keep coming due. The Government of Ontario’s measures announced today will help support those in need while Ontarians take up those critical isolation practices that will slow the spread of the coronavirus.
“Lowering electricity rates is the right thing to do – this will help off-set some of the costs related to increased consumption due to Ontarians isolating at home as well as financial pressures resulting from the COVID-19 shutdown. We also welcome the decision from the Ontario Energy Board to extend its ban on electricity disconnection for households and small businesses that fail to pay their utility bills to July 31.”
