November 9, 2023(TORONTO – November 9, 2023) – Over 300 participants gathered from across the province for the Ontario Chamber of Commerce’s (OCC) flagship event, the Ontario Economic Summit (OES), from November 1-2 at the Metro Convention Centre in Toronto. Attendees heard from world-class speakers and leaders, including The Right Honourable Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau; the Honourable, Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario; and Her Worship, Olivia Chow, Mayor, City of Toronto.
Prime Minister Trudeau reaffirmed the federal, provincial, and municipal government’s commitment to collaboration to create a better tomorrow for all Ontarians.
“We need to make responsible choices that emphasize Ontario’s advantages in an uncertain world in a time of deep and lasting changes,” said the Prime Minister, “Olivia and Doug are a great example of partnership – when it comes to delivering for people, we work together.”
“There are no governments that have worked closer together than ours,” said Premier Ford during his address, “When we all come together as Team Ontario, there’s nothing we can’t do.”
“With a strong Toronto, you’ll get a strong Ontario and a strong Canada,” said Mayor Chow in her opening remarks.
Panel discussions focused on the most pressing public policy issues facing Ontario, including critical minerals, the future of transportation, responsible AI, technology, and labour. A lively debate also took place where panelists discussed whether reforming the Competition Act would bring more competition to Canada.
“Partnerships for prosperity is not a pretty description – it’s a prescription. It is through continued collaboration that we can improve the quality of life across our province,” said Rocco Rossi, President and CEO, OCC.
The 20th anniversary of OES also marked the transition of leadership for the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC). After six years, Rocco Rossi, President and CEO, OCC, will be succeeded by Daniel Tisch, APR, FCPRS, ICD.D, who will assume the position in January 2024.
