Ontario Chamber Welcomes Landmark Honda Investment, Emphasizes Critical Role of Northern Ontario
April 25, 2024(Toronto – April 25, 2024) – Today, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce’s (OCC) President and CEO, Daniel Tisch, released the following statement on Honda Canada’s landmark investment of approximately $15 billion to create Canada’s first comprehensive electric vehicle (EV) supply chain in Ontario:
“The Ontario Chamber of Commerce applauds the public and private sector collaboration that has attracted and enabled this investment, which will enhance local manufacturing capacity and position the province as a leader in the global transition to a green economy.
“To realize the full economic benefits of EV technologies and investments, Ontario will need a vertically integrated supply chain, from minerals in the North to manufacturing in the South. We encourage the Province to continue implementation of Ontario’s Critical Minerals Strategy, while taking a comprehensive approach to Northern development, working with Indigenous communities, nations and businesses, addressing talent retention challenges, and building the necessary physical and social infrastructure.
“As we celebrate today’s announcement, we must also remember that maintaining a competitive taxation framework is essential to Ontario and Canada being able to continue to secure future investments – bringing jobs and economic growth. We continue to call for a robust review of taxation frameworks to ensure they are aligned with supporting productivity and competitiveness.
“This is an important day for Ontario and Canada. We congratulate the business and government leaders involved.”
