Ontario Chamber Welcomes Government Commitment to GO Transit Expansion
January 13, 2025(TORONTO – January 13, 2025) – Today, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce’s (OCC) President and CEO, Daniel Tisch, released a statement following the Government of Ontario’s direction to Metrolinx to prioritize “GO 2.0” transit development:
“The announcement of next-generation GO passenger train service enables Ontario to step into a future of regional connectivity – one that can fundamentally improve how people live and work across our province.
“With rising housing costs and crippling congestion, Ontario’s prosperity depends on diversified mass transit systems that support mobility, reduce our carbon footprint, attract investment, and contribute to community wellbeing – while strategically connecting our workforce with housing options and emerging opportunities in all regions.
“The Ontario Chamber strongly encourages continued focus on transit and infrastructure development, in consultation with the business community. This includes equally prioritizing a highly skilled labour force, protecting valuable agricultural lands and natural resources, implementing electrification and automation, driving value for money, enabling intermodal integration, and optimizing project delivery – from planning and design to operation and maintenance.”
