New Tourism Strategy is a Step Towards a Strengthened Economy
October 23, 2018(Toronto, October 23, 2018) Today Rocco Rossi, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) released the following statement in response to the Ontario government’s announcement that they will launch consultations to support the development of a new tourism strategy.
“Representing $33 billion of Ontario’s GDP, tourism is a vital sector for Ontario’s economy. That is why, in our blueprint letter, we encouraged the new Ontario government to implement a strategic plan for the tourism sector.
“Ontario’s tourism industry presents ample opportunity for growth, yet taxes on travel and accommodation, and rising labour costs, place undue burden on an industry which already operates on thin margins.
“We’re very pleased Minister Jones has announced that the government will be working with stakeholders to create a new strategy that will lead to an even stronger tourism industry in Ontario.”
