Chamber Reacts to Introduction of Minimum Wage for App-Based Workers
February 28, 2022(Toronto – February 28, 2022) – Today, Rocco Rossi, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce released the following statement in response to the Government of Ontario’s announcement that it will introduce minimum wage for app-based workers.
“As the indispensable partner of business, we support evidence-based reforms and policies that are developed in consultation with stakeholders to ensure new legislation meaningfully supports app-based workers, who already earn above minimum wage on average.
“We encourage the Government of Ontario to also focus on important issues not touched on in today’s announcement but are included in recommendations made by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Ontario Workforce Recovery Advisory Committee such as requiring app-based platforms to provide a portable or flexible benefits fund.
“We look forward to continuing to work with the Government of Ontario on this and other matters important to Ontario business.”
