Unleashing Ontario’s Green Potential: Calling for Predictability and Long-Term Planning on World Environment Day
June 5, 2023(Toronto – June 5, 2023) – Today, Rocco Rossi, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) released the following statement to mark World Environment Day:
As we mark World Environment Day on June 5, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, through its report The Climate Catalyst: Ontario’s Leadership in the Green Global Economy, celebrates the positive strides made by businesses in Ontario towards a sustainable future. We commend the remarkable work being done in our province, from the growth of electric vehicles to the development of natural infrastructure, the issuance of green bonds, to small modular reactors and the adoption of recyclable materials. To further accelerate progress, we call on governments to continue prioritizing and enhancing predictability in climate policies and long-term energy planning.
“Predictability is essential to sustain and amplify Ontario’s leadership in the green global economy. By providing a clear and streamlined regulatory framework, the federal government can unlock greater private sector investment, innovation, and job creation. Provincially, long-term energy procurement plans that support the development of clean and renewable energy sources are crucial for attracting investment and fostering economic growth. By enhancing predictability in these areas, public policy can empower businesses in Ontario to make informed decisions, drive innovation, and create green jobs.
“On this World Environment Day, we urge the federal and provincial governments to prioritize predictability and long-term planning in climate policies and energy procurement, unlocking the full potential of Ontario’s green economy. The Ontario Chamber of Commerce stands ready to work with public policy makers and our business community to seize these opportunities to make Ontario a true climate catalyst in the green global economy.”
