Ontario Chamber Urges Swift Resolution to Air Canada Labour Dispute
August 12, 2025(Toronto – August 12, 2025) – As Air Canada labour negotiations reach a critical point, Daniel Tisch, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC), issued the following statement:
“Labour disruption at Air Canada would do more than ground flights – it would stall vital economic activity at a time when stability is urgently needed.
“In Ontario alone, Air Canada contributes $33 million in daily GDP and $71 million in daily economic output, while transporting 6,000 foreign tourists each day, visitors whose annual spending injects $1.8 billion into local economies. The loss of these travellers would be detrimental to tourism, trade, and hospitality.
“The OCC urges all parties to act swiftly and collaboratively to protect the people, industries, and communities that rely on uninterrupted air travel. If the parties cannot reach a resolution, we encourage government involvement to explore all potential avenues to avoid prolonged economic impact. We also encourage Ontarians to continue supporting local tourism and businesses during this period of uncertainty.”
