Ontario Chamber of Commerce Welcomes Ontario’s Defence Industrial Strategy Framework
May 29, 2026(TORONTO — May 29, 2026) — The Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) welcomes the release of Ontario’s defence industrial strategy framework as an important step toward strengthening the province’s industrial capacity, supply chains, and economic competitiveness.
Ontario is home to one of North America’s most diverse defence ecosystems, spanning advanced manufacturing, aerospace, cybersecurity, AI, critical minerals, and other strategic sectors that support both economic growth and national security. As allies accelerate investments in defence and resilience, Ontario is well-positioned to become a more significant player in secure supply chains and advanced production.
“A made-in-Ontario defence industrial strategy will strengthen Ontario’s competitiveness, productivity, and long-term economic growth,” said Daniel Tisch, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. “Today’s announcement signals that Ontario understands the strategic and economic importance of this sector, and that government and business must work together to scale innovation, strengthen supply chains, and attract investment.”
A coordinated strategy can help unlock private-sector investment, strengthen domestic supply chains, accelerate commercialization, and create new opportunities for Ontario businesses, particularly small- and medium-sized enterprises.
“As global defence and security needs evolve, this is a moment for Ontario to step forward on the global stage,” Tisch added. “From critical minerals to advanced manufacturing to financial services, Ontario has the assets to anchor the secure supply chains and investment partnerships allies are looking for in an uncertain world.”
The OCC looks forward to working with the provincial government and industry partners to help ensure the strategy delivers long-term economic and industrial benefits for Ontario businesses and communities.
