Ontario Chamber Congratulates Prime Minister-Designate Mark Carney
March 10, 2025(Toronto, March 10, 2025) — The Ontario Chamber of Commerce’s President and CEO, Daniel Tisch, issued the following statement today, following the election of Mark Carney as Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada:
“The Ontario Chamber congratulates Prime Minister-Designate Mark Carney as he assumes national leadership at this time of uncertainty and opportunity.
“In the short term, he must meet the tariff and trade threat with firmness, prepare for worst-case scenarios and push for a swift renegotiation of CUSMA to ensure stability for businesses across North America.
“This must go hand-in-hand with bolstering Canada’s competitiveness by dismantling interprovincial trade barriers, advancing a national energy corridor, helping businesses diversify export markets, and strengthening domestic procurement and supply chain infrastructure.
“It’s time for Canada to replace complacency with competitiveness. This means a sustainable growth agenda that unleashes business investment, entrepreneurship, innovation, productivity, and growth – while continuing to invest in talent, infrastructure, and healthy communities. We urge Mr. Carney to pursue such an agenda in collaboration with other orders of government, and with the business community.
“We thank Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for standing strong against the U.S. tariff threat in recent months and remain committed to working with all leaders at all levels to advance inclusive, sustainable prosperity in Ontario and Canada.”
