Ontario Chamber of Commerce Welcomes Federal Announcement on Initial Nation-building Projects
September 11, 2025(TORONTO – September 11, 2025) – The Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) welcomes today’s announcement by Prime Minister Mark Carney identifying the first five major nation-building projects aimed at strengthening Canada’s economic resilience and global competitiveness.
These strategic initiatives reflect Ontario’s priorities for sustainable growth, innovation, and energy leadership. The Ontario Chamber has been a strong supporter of the Darlington New Nuclear Project in Clarington, Ontario, which will advance the development of small modular reactors (SMRs)—a critical investment in clean energy and technological innovation. In addition, the OCC welcomes investment in the Port of Montreal, a key gateway for Ontario businesses, and the inclusion of critical minerals in the Ring of Fire and Alto high-speed rail among Canada’s high-potential early stage projects.
“It’s time for Canada to think bigger and build faster, and today’s announcement brings important momentum by signalling projects of the highest priority,” says Daniel Tisch, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. “The Ontario Chamber shares the government’s commitment to accelerating the building of transformative infrastructure. These initiatives, coupled with earlier-stage projects cited by the PM today, would diversify Canada’s industrial base, enhance supply chain connectivity, and unlock new market opportunities for Ontario businesses.”
The OCC also supports the federal government’s emphasis on Indigenous partnerships, climate action, and regional economic growth as foundational pillars of Canada’s strategy. It looks forward to working collaboratively with all levels of government and stakeholders to ensure these projects deliver long-term economic benefits for Ontario’s communities and industries.
