Ontario Chamber Urges Immediate Resolution of Canada Post Labour Strike
November 28, 2024(Toronto – November 27, 2024) – As the Canada Post labour negotiations halt and mediation talks are suspended, Daniel Tisch, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC), issued the following statement calling for an immediate resolution to the ongoing nationwide labour strike:
“This is more than a labour dispute or a logistical challenge; it’s an economic risk to Canada. Instead of thriving during the holidays, businesses face delays, damaged reputations, and lost sales.
“Since approximately 80 per cent of small businesses rely on Canada Post for parcel delivery, sending invoices, and receiving payments from suppliers and customers, the strike’s impacts are catastrophic. While alternatives exist, many are inaccessible to small businesses, particularly those in rural, remote, or northern communities.
“Halting e-commerce sales during the busiest season of the year is a choice no business should have to make. The Ontario Chamber calls for an immediate resolution between bargaining parties to prevent further disruptions to our supply chains and business operations. We also encourage Ontarians to shop in-person to support businesses during this time.”
